Thousands of workers and citizens sat in and held demonstrations sur rounding Parliament against passing three bills to enhance Japan-U.S. military alliance on April 27. Activists belonging COM (Communist Association) Prepartory Committee joined the struggle and also staged a demo against U.S. embassy, condemning NATO/US bombing of Yugoslavia.
Stop the path to war! Let the Guideline Bill rejected! Many workers, students, Buddhists and citizens form all over Japan, sat in front of Parliament all day long to stop passing reactionary bills to accommodate defence guidelines. Inside Parliament, activists in visitors' gallery impeached voting for the bills and six of them were teken into custody by the garrisons.
The government, with the support of the Liberal Democratic Party, its coalition partner Jiyuto (Liberal Party) and opposition party New Komeito, tried to passe three bills aimed at accomodating the revised Japan-U.S. defence cooperation guidelines at a plenary session of the House of Representatives April 27.
The three bills are aimed at:
* Enforcing a law that authorizes the Self-Defense Forces to carry out various operations in the event of contingencies occurring in areas surrounding the nation, including offering support for U.S. military operations.
* Revising the Self-Defense Forces Law to enable the use of MSDF vessels for rescuing Japanese nationals when necessary.
* Revising the Japan-U.S. Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement.
The three bills strengthen Japan-U.S. military alliance and pave way to imperialist aggressive war. Capitalist LDP-LP government is going to turn whole society into wartime regime in case of crisis in Koria Peninsula and other parts.
Although the bills cleared the lower house, they were sent on for approval by the House of Councillors. So, to stop the bills to become laws, antiwar struggle should be empowered furthermore.
Maenwhile, activists of COM, joining the struggle above, also staged a demo against U.S. embassy, condemning NATO/US bombing of Yugoslavia.
