In Tokyo, there were three major May Day rallies; right-wing Rengo rally in Yoyogi park, Zenroren rally in Kameido led by JCP (Japan Communist Party), and Zenrokyo rally in Hibiya in the mornig, May 1.
JVP; People's Liberation Front (Japan Committee) participated in Hibiya May Day rally, where most militant labor unions gathered. Tens of thousands of militant Japanese workers joined the rally with foreign workers.
The Hibiya May Day's main slogans were to defend worker's life and rights, to maintain peace and democracy, to crush an undesirable amendment to the Labor Standards Law. The rally emphasized that it is important for workers to struggle against new guideline of a war manual between U.S.A. and Japan in solidarity with Okinawa people.
In the rally, JVP handed out MAY DAY MESSAGE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING CENTER OF THE JVP, pointing out "Now the time has come to rekindle that programme," stated in the Communist Manifesto 150 years ago, "in order to defeat the dominance of capital and end a man exploiting another."
JVP also made Japanese workers aware the fact that postal workers were arrested, one JVP activist was murdered, workers and the oppressed lost human rights under the PA government in Sri Lanka.
After the rally, JVP with Japanese workers demonstrated downtown in the Metropolice, carring red banners, and chanting revolutionary slogans.
