Activists of JVP-JC (People's Liberation Front - Sri Lanka Japan Committee) with Japanese communists groups and workers demonstrated against the Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo to condemn the imposition of the state of emergency and the oppression against JVP activists and journalists, and to demand PA government to hold provisional council poll right away, on the afternoon Tuesday, September 22.
About 50 JVP and Japanese activists surrounded the embassy with banners and placards, saying "LIFT THE STATE EMERGENCY!" "PUT THE PROVISIONAL COUNCIL POLL INTO PRACTICE IMMEDAITELY!" "ABOLISH THE EXECTIVE PRESIDENCY!" "STOP ATTACKS ON J.V.P ACTIVISTS" etc.
In Sri Lanka, People's Alliance (PA) government expanded the state of emergency into all island in August, as an excuse for postponing the provisional council poll. Under the state of imergency, opposission camp such as JVP has been oppressed and human right abuses have been prevailing. New Left Front including JVP has taken actions against PA's undemocratic measures all over Sri Lanka.
In accordance with international solidarity spirits, there have been similar actions all over the world, in Italy, France, Australia and so on. Anti-imperialist struggle and proletaria internationalism is the key factor of class consiousness of workers particulary in so-called advanced countries.
As Sri Lanka last Thursday announced it had received two loans worth 19.34 billion yen (142 million dollars) from Japanese Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund, Japan is Sri Lanka's largest single donor of foreign aid. Therefore, Japanese imperialist has been committed deeply to the cause of exploitation and oppression in Sri Lanka. Japnanese communists as well as workers should become conscious of playing the role of oppressor, and make solidarity stronger with revolutionary struggles in Sri Lanka.
