Activists of JVP-JC (People's Liberation Front - Sri Lanka Japan Committee) with Japanese communists groups and workers demonstrated against the Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo to condemn the unfair NWP (North Western Province) poll with terror, in the afternoon February 24. In accordance with international solidarity spirits, there have been similar actions all over the world, in Italy, France, Australia and so on.
About 50 JVP and Japanese activists surrounded the embassy with banners and placards, calling for "HOLD A FREE AND FAIR POLL!" "DISSOLVE THE NWP ASSEMBLY!" "STOP SUPPRESSION FREEDOM OF SPEECH!" "STOP ATTACKS ON JOURNALISTS, PROGRESSIVES AND INTELLECTUALS CRITICIZING UNFAIR POLL" "LIFT THE STATE EMERGENCY!" "ABOLISH THE EXECTIVE PRESIDENCY!" etc.
According to comrade Saman, the delegates of the protest action, even a member of the embassy staff couldn't say that the poll was free and fair. Furthermore, the staff asked us not to take a picture of the embassy. That's the order of the foreign minister of Sri Lanka. What a democratic government it is!
During January-25th NWP poll in Sri Lanka, there were a lot of malpractices, fraud, intimidation and impersonation. PA government, using armed gangs, forced polling agents to leave a large number of polling booths. The election was far from a free and fair election.
In fact, there were numerous incidents of assault, shooting, attempted murder, murder and arson perpetrated by the People's Alliance. Supporters of JVP and other parties were assaulted and physically driven out of polling booths. So, JVP demanded the cancellation of the dirty poll, and now the dissolution of NWP assembly.
JVP has staged huge joint demonstrations with the New Left Front, Muslim United Liberation Front, the Women's Collective Against Political Violence and so on.
The other 7 provincial elections will be held in April. As protest actions are stronger and stronger, PA as well as UNP will be defeated by people's anger and JVP will win.
Anti-imperialist struggle and proletaria internationalism is the key factor of class consiousness of workers particulary in so-called advanced countries. Japnanese communists as well as workers should become conscious of playing the role of oppressor, and make solidarity stronger with revolutionary struggles in Sri Lanka.
